Okay, my little lecture is over. On to my next review...
Fast & Furious 6 (2013)
Rated PG-13
What its about: Following very closely behind the events of Fast 5, Dom and the gang have all promised to live quiet lives and go straight, no more criminal capers or high speed chases. But Hollywood knew that wouldn't be any fun for anybody, so Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson reels them back in to the high risk world of racing and shoot-em-ups to catch a terrorist bent on thwarting the government, and blah blah blah.
Check it out if you liked: The Fast & The Furious, The Italian Job, Death Race, Redline
The Good: I'm going to be honest, of the 6 movies in the series, this is only the 3rd one I've seen. That said, you don't have to have seen all of them to pick up on the connections between the characters, and the basic outline of the overarching story: Dom loves Lettie, Brian was a cop, and The Rock is a freaking behemoth who likes to smash things unnecessarily.
Fans of the past 5 movies are in for a treat, because if these movies do anything well, its taking the action from the past movie, and making it even more over-the-top. To that degree, I can't wait to see what the next one has in store. The plot is very easy to follow, the whole movie ends with a bang, and there are significantly less cliche's than I expected.
Anyone who enjoys a good racing movie, a good action movie, or a good plot twist are in for a fun ride (HAH! Racing puns!)
I didn't realize Superman had a cameo... |
The Bad: To be frank, this movie is very corny. The Rock is a wrestler-turned-actor, and it shows. I've always thought that wrestlers should make great actors, since professional wrestling is basically just acting, and yet his performance tended to bring the movie down just a tad. That said, every time another cheesy one-liner was spouted, he'd do something bad ass, and I'd remember that you don't go to these movies for the acting, you go for the action.
Other than The Rock's rocky performance (so much pun up in here!!), the only other flaw I could find in this movie was that while the action is made to be over-the-top, it tended to push that bar a little too hard at times. Fun and exciting, yes, but movie goers expecting a realistic, even semi-possible experience are out of luck.
Verdict: 7 out of 10 stolen cars thieved by a cop-turned-criminal who manages to somehow get away with it even though in reality his ass would rot in a jail cell for the rest of his life...
I don't wanna know... |
